Enrico Santini Vineyards

Enrico Santini has made a name for himself as one of the most dynamic and respected producers in the prestigious Bolgheri DOC.

A native of the area, he is a "garagiste" in the truest sense of the word. Enrico is meticulous in his vineyards, his wines come exclusively from his organic estate, and they radiate his profound passion. As one of the only wine producers in Bolgheri who was born and raised in the area, he has a deep commitment to the region that developed out of his love for the land and the microclimate of this spectacular Tuscan coastal area.

The Enrico Santini estate is located within the spectacular Tuscan coastal region of Maremma, near Bolgheri, Italy. The region was originally swampland and has become famous within the past 50 years for excellent Cabernet and Merlot based wines. The region is known for long aging, full bodied and sensuous wines with rich berry concentrations.

According to Enrico, "My approach to wine is similar to the challenge of understanding reality by observing the present unfold around you, of understanding the relationship between a place and yourself in that place. In this way, with this understanding, nature and I give life to something which is not the 'best' wine in the world, but a wine which portrays a place, a part of my persona, and my passion."

Enrico Santini wines are certified as biological (organic) in Italy. In Enrico's own words, "The choice about the biological production was not due to a personal mission to save the planet! It is time consuming, but I honestly think that once you reach a real balance for the vines, you can also reduce the use of both copper and sulphur. In short, I leave the plants to develop their own defences."

The winery is in the garage and basement of Enrico's home - a true 'garagiste' operation reflecting Enrico's passion for great wine that respects the vine and the terroir. While small, it is fully equipped to make the high quality artesian wines that make Enrico a star under the Bolgheri appellation.
